Punjab Kings
The Punjab Kings are one of the most consistent teams in the Indian Premier League. They have won seven of their eight matches and have a net run rate above +1, reflecting their dominant start to the season. According to the Tata Ipl Point Table 2026, they are currently sixth in the table, but a win against Mumbai Indians would give them a chance to jump up to fourth place.
Last year, Punjab lost out on a top-two finish after an inconsistent campaign. Their big-hitting batters – KL Rahul, Chris Gayle and Shaun Marsh – all hit high scores, but they were not consistent enough.
The Kings finished with six wins and 12 points, just one spot higher than the previous year and were left rueing close losses that could have pushed them into the playoffs.
This year, the Punjab Kings have a strong squad and are aiming to improve on their disappointing finish last season. They have the best bowling unit in the competition, including fast bowlers Mohit Sharma and Nehal Wadhera. The team also boasts a decent batting line-up, with openers Mandeep Singh and Rahul doing well.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
After 70 matches, the IPL 2026 league stage has concluded and four teams have secured their places in the playoffs. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru have clinched the top spot, while Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished second and third respectively. The fourth and final playoff berth was claimed by Rajasthan Royals, who defeated Mumbai Indians in their final match of the league phase.
The middle of the table sees an intriguing battle for supremacy. RCB are firmly in the mix for a top-two finish, with 10 points from eight matches and a solid net run rate of +0.601.
GT are close behind, boasting the same number of wins and losses as RCB but with an improved NRR of +0.783. SRH remain in the mix as well, with 10 points from seven matches and a decent NRR of +0.603. The other two sides are Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, both of whom have enjoyed strong campaigns thus far.
Rajasthan Royals
The Rajasthan Royals are an Indian Premier League cricket team based in Jaipur, India. The Royals made their comeback to the tournament in 2018 after a two-year suspension.
The Royals played their home games at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The team is owned by a consortium led by US-based investor Kal Somani.
In the first match of the season, the Royals won against Delhi Daredevils by six wickets. This was the Royals’ first win at their new home ground. After this win, the Royals lost their next three matches to fall out of contention for a playoff berth.
Despite their poor start to the season, the Royals finished the regular season in fourth place with 14 points. Jos Buttler was the Royals’ top run scorer, and he also tied Virender Sehwag’s record for most consecutive fifties in IPL history.
During the 2021 auction, the Royals retained their star players Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler and added Yashasvi Jaiswal to their squad. The Royals also signed international players Heinrich Klaasen and Riyan Parag to bolster their bowling attack. The Royals have a high net run rate, which is crucial in IPL play. This is important because it helps determine a team’s ranking in the table.
Gujarat Titans
The Gujarat Titans, also known as GT, is a professional cricket team based in Ahmedabad. It competes in the Indian Premier League and plays its home matches at Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Gujarat. The Titans are owned by Torrent Group and CVC Capital Partners. They debuted in 2022 and won their first title the following year. The Titans are captained by Hardik Pandya and coached by Ashish Nehra.
The Titans’ main rival is Mumbai Indians (also known as MI). They have clashed 8 times, with GT winning 5 of those matches. The two teams have been locked in a fierce rivalry since the 2022 finals, when GT won their first title.
Chennai Super Kings
The Chennai Super Kings are a professional Twenty20 cricket team based in Chennai, India. The club was founded in 2008 as one of the original eight debut franchises in the Indian Premier League.
The club is owned by the Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited and plays its home matches at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. The club is nicknamed the “Yellow Army” for their distinctive yellow kit and has been an integral part of Indian cricket since its inception.
The club has won five IPL titles, making them the joint most successful franchise along with Mumbai Indians. It has also appeared in ten finals and 12 playoff rounds, the most among all IPL teams. The club’s greatest success came under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who led the team to three consecutive IPL titles between 2014 and 2016.
The club was recently in the news for its decision to drop two overseas players from their squad ahead of the upcoming season. The move was widely criticized by fans and the media. However, the club stated that it had made the decision in the best interests of the team and its players. In addition, it is expected to add more foreign players for the upcoming season.
Delhi Capitals
The Delhi Capitals are a professional cricket team based in New Delhi, India. They compete in the Indian Premier League, the Twenty20 version of the tournament. They are owned and operated by JSW GMR Cricket Pvt. Ltd, the joint venture between JSW Group and GMR Sports. They play their home games at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The team is managed by Gautam Gambhir, who took over after Virender Sehwag resigned as captain following the second season of the IPL. The team has won three and lost 13 times in the last ten seasons, and are currently in the bottom half of the table.
This year, they brought in a number of players in the auction. Among them were South Africans de Kock and Duminy, but also young India fast bowler Avesh Khan. They were light on batting, so they relied on new buy KL Rahul to make more than 500 runs.
The team made a good start, winning five of their first six games. But they missed out on the playoffs after losing five of their next eight games. The Tata Ipl Point Table 2026 reflected their inconsistent campaign, as New captain Axar Patel did little to improve the situation, while KL Rahul was the only bright spot in the batting department.
