Finishing in the top two on the points table gives teams an advantage in the playoffs. However, winning the final is not guaranteed for teams that finish in the top two. A team’s ranking depends on their Net Run Rate (NRR) and head-to-head results.
According to the Ipl Points Table 2026 First Match, Punjab Kings lead the table with 19 points after 14 matches, winning nine games and losing five, while maintaining the best net run rate in the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders
A top-two finish in the points table earns teams a berth in the knockout stages, so every game is a big one. Each team is awarded two points for a win, and a single point for a no-result or tie. The IPL points table is constantly shifting as teams fight for the final playoff spot.
The Royals have struggled this season after the loss of their star spinners Ravi Ashwin and Yuzi Chahal, and their middle order has been leaking runs too. Dhruv Jurel and Dhawal Kulkarni both have been disappointing, while the likes of Theekshana Naik and Kartik Tyagi lack the control and wicket-taking prowess of their predecessors.
Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bat first. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a solid opening partnership, but once the latter was out, it triggered a mini-collapse for RR. Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine bowled with tremendous pace, while Nirmal Sagar kept KKR on track in his second spell.
KKR started slowly in their chase but De Kock and Moeen Ali played out the Rajasthan pacers in the powerplay. The tempo then increased after the spinners were brought on and despite some shoddy batting from Moeen, De Kock remained unbeaten on 64 off 34 balls. Narine couldn’t replicate his previous form, but Moeen and Kartik Rabada both took crucial wickets late on to secure the game for KKR.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Gujarat Titans
The 2026 IPL points table is constantly shifting, reflecting the intensity of competition in this year’s tournament. With top-two finishes earning teams a big advantage in the playoffs, every match counts. Teams earn 2 points for a win, 1 point for a no-result or tie, and 0 points for a loss. A team’s Net Run Rate (NRR) also contributes to its ranking.
The defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to extend their unbeaten record against the Gujarat Titans in an exciting face-off at home. The hosts boast a star-studded batting line-up led by Jacob Bethell, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal. The bowling department is bolstered by Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam.
Chennai Super Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants
Chennai Super Kings will look to reclaim their top spot in the IPL 2026 points table after a poor start, when they host Lucknow Super Giants at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on April 23. The five-time champions beat LSG in the reverse fixture three days ago, but have struggled to find momentum this season and will need a strong performance at home if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
The defending champions have a number of concerns going into the game, including their struggles in the PowerPlay, their lack of form from key batsmen Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane, and the bowling department’s struggle to provide early breakthroughs. However, a good run of results in the coming week would help them close the gap on teams above them on the table.
This match features two of the biggest rivalries in IPL history, often referred to as “the El Clasico of IPL.” CSK are known for their consistency and calm leadership under MS Dhoni, while Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma, rely on aggressive tactics and star-studded lineups. This is sure to be a thrilling encounter between the two sides. The winner will take the top spot in the IPL points table and move a step closer to securing a berth in the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals
A ruthless display from Mitchell Starc ensured Delhi Capitals kept their playoff hopes alive with a five-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in the first match of Sunday’s doubleheader. Starc’s incisive 4/40 ripped through the RR batting and triggered a collapse. Riyan Parag (51) and Dhruv Jurel put a solid foundation, but Starc’s quick breakthroughs derailed the innings.
Axar Patel then played a starring role in DC’s smooth chase, along with Abishhek Porel and Ashutosh Sharma. Patel’s unbeaten 34 off 18 helped them close on 196/5 in 19.2 overs. There were a few middle-order hiccups, but Axar’s assured cameo ensured there were no late scares.
The victory lifts DC up to fifth place and keeps them in the race for a top-four finish. They are just two points behind fourth-placed Mumbai Indians, and can make up ground with a win in their next game against Kings XI Punjab.
Delhi’s batting is also in good shape, led by KL Rahul (56 off 42) and Abishek Porel (51). The pair shared a 105-run opening partnership before Porel fell in the 13th over. Rahul and Patel then eased the chase, and Axar and Ashutosh put on a late flourish.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made IPL history as he became the first Indian player to hit more than 43 sixes in one season, as he continued his fearless assault against the Delhi bowlers at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. He smashed three sixes in the powerplay and four more over the course of the innings.
On the other hand, RR’s top order isn’t in the best of form. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel and Vaibhav Suryavanshi are their mainstays, but the latter has been struggling for form of late. It’s important for the Royals to get the likes of Jofra Archer back in shape, as he is vital for their attack.
He has been their leading run-scorer this year with 440 runs from 11 matches. He has scored the most sixes (30) in the powerplay and the most overall (40). He is likely to be a key player for them against Delhi’s weak bowling lineup. The Ipl Points Table 2026 First Match also highlights how crucial individual performances and match results are in shaping team standings and playoff prospects.
