Zimbabwe still managed to produce formidable performances in one-day and Twenty20 internationals, winning against non-Test playing Kenya and reaching the final of a triangular tournament that included India and Sri Lanka.

Zimbabwe was elevated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to 131 on January 13, in part due to their impressive win against Australia in their four-match ODI series – their first against them for 31 years!

Zimbabwe came second in their ODI group at the 2014 World Cup with a 9-1 record across ten games, but failed to advance to the knockout stage.

Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) has experienced financial issues and player unrest for several years. In 2006, they borrowed money to pay match fees of US$2000 per appearance as well as bonuses based on wickets taken and fifties scored.

After struggling through a cash crisis in 2007, payments to players were suspended to help preserve financial viability. This decision sent shockwaves through player ranks, with several players threatening strike action. Thirteen white players went ahead and formed what later became known as the Rebel Camp.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) then named a 14-man squad against Sri Lanka, with only eight players having previous international experience while six were uncapped.

The situation became an important chapter in the history of the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team Vs India National Cricket Team Players rivalry, as Zimbabwe worked to rebuild its squad and develop new talent for future international challenges.
