Orange Cap

The Indian Premier League awards several accolades at the end of every season to recognize players for outstanding performances, including Orange Cap and Purple Cap awards.

Orange Cap honors are given to run-scorers while Purple Cap goes to wicket-takers; Shaun Marsh of Kings XI Punjab was the inaugural Orange Cap recipient back in 2008 before going on to claim this prestigious accolade twice more (in 2015, 2017 and 2019).

Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans has secured himself the Orange Cap lead after an outstanding performance against Delhi Capitals in 2025 IPL edition. The young batsman scored an outstanding 109 off 78 balls to help his side qualify for playoffs with an easy victory at Eden Gardens, with Shubman Gill (93 off 60) and Mitchell Marsh also contributing with fifties to keep themselves competitive for this honor.

Nicholas Pooran returned to the top spot after scoring a 36-ball 87 not out in LSG’s narrow win against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Tuesday, taking his total runs scored from five innings up to 288 with three half centuries and four fifties.

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have both made strong starts to the season, rising quickly through seven matches with 13 points from seven matches and an outstanding net run rate to claim top spot on the table; while RCB have managed an impressive 10 points.

Purple Cap

After the India Pakistan tensions eased, the IPL resumed at Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday. But, rain delayed the start of the match between RCB and SRH until after midnight. In the end, the Virat Kohli-led side won by 42 runs to go top of the table.

The win also saw SRH move up one place to eighth in the Purple Cap leaderboard. Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 94-run knock helped the Hyderabad franchise put on 231 for the loss of six wickets. Then, SRH’s bowlers thrashed the RCB batters for just 189 runs in 19.5 overs. The highlight of the SRH attack was Pat Cummins, who took three wickets in four overs to send two RCB batsmen back to the pavilion.

There was no change at the top of the Orange Cap and Purple Cap tables after RCB vs SRH. LSG’s Nicholas Pooran remained on top of the Orange Cap, with 349 runs to his name. However, he will have to score more runs in order to stay ahead of MI’s Suryakumar Yadav and GT’s Sai Sudharsan. On the Purple Cap list, CSK’s Noor Ahmad moved up to take second spot after his 2/28 against RCB.

Total Points

IPL 2025 points table is updated after each match and only the top four teams qualify for playoffs. Mumbai Indians lead this table with 216 points after winning 108 league matches – this marks an all-time IPL season record; previously held by Chennai Super Kings who scored 205 points during 2016.

After an abandoned match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 5, which resulted in both teams sharing one point each, RCB moved up one spot while KKR fell one to sixth place in the 2025 IPL points table.

Punjab Kings vaulted up the rankings after their dramatic 16-run win against Kolkata Knight Riders in an low-scoring game, thanks to Yuzvendra Chahal’s four wicket haul of 28 runs at an economy rate of 2.98 runs per over. Their collapse ended their playoff hopes and they now sit with just five points from seven matches played this season; Punjab Kings managed their victory even despite having only 10 runs scored against them! This historic win marked IPL history’s lowest total defended and first time one side managed a victory this season against an opponent with less than 10 runs on board!

Match Points

Indian Premier League 2025 concluded with an exciting playoff bracket after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) edged Chennai Super Kings (CSK). RCB’s victory marked their inaugural IPL title, following 17-years without success, while CSK saw MS Dhoni return as captain for another shot at glory during this tournament.

Teams which won the highest number of matches during IPL 2017 are placed first on the points table, while teams which won fewest are listed at the bottom. This information is used to select Orange Cap and Purple Cap winners; points are calculated based on each team’s net run rate, which measures how close its actual score is to its target score.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) quickly advanced from their opening match against Gujarat Titans to third position on the IPL points table with an outstanding net run rate of 0.550, before further rising up by beating Kolkata Knight Riders thanks to Yuzvendra Chahal’s stellar bowling performance and successfully defending one of the lowest totals ever totalled by them in IPL history.

Mumbai Indians also moved up in points after their win against CSK, although they still sit seventh with a net run rate of +0.447. Their position on the Ipl 2025 Points Table reflects their recent improvement, and their next IPL fixture begins this Thursday. Be sure to stay up-to-date with Wisden for all the latest IPL updates.
