India vs. Sri Lanka
India’s national cricket team, commonly referred to as Team India or Men in Blue, represents India in international men’s cricket competitions.
Under the jurisdiction of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and as Full Members of the International Cricket Council with both Test and One Day International status.
Considered one of the strongest sides worldwide cricket; their successes during major ICC tournaments like World Cup or Champions Trophy tournaments are met with immense joy by Indian fans.
India first played their inaugural Test match in 1932; however, it took nearly 80 years before India became an established force in cricketing terms.
Led by batsmen such as Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev and bowlers such as Mohammad Azharuddin and Javagal Srinath respectively, India quickly established itself as a top-level nation.
India began dominating One Day International (ODI) cricket during the 1980s. Stars such as Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, and Mohammad Amir became household names at this time – not to mention winning their inaugural ever ODI world cup! This historic momentous occasion in Indian cricket history remains an unforgettable milestone in its long and distinguished history.
Starting in the late 90s, India’s ODI fortunes began to improve dramatically. Led by Sourav Ganguly in the 2000s and his team winning multiple World Cups (three to be exact!), India achieved great success – as Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli emerged as some of the finest captains both for ODIs and Tests respectively.
Rohit Sharma leads India in both one-day international (ODI) and T20I cricket, and their recent form has been impressive, winning the 2023 Asia Cup and reaching the final of 2019 World Cup.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has received his maiden call-up to India A squad for their tri-series against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in June, joining teammates Riyan Parag, Tilak Varma and Priyansh Arya on this 15-member list.
Tilak Varma will captain India A, with Sooryavanshi serving as vice-captain during their tour to Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Other players on board for this expedition include Nishant Sindhu, Harsh Dubey, Priyansh Arya, Nishant Singh, Arshad Khan and Ayush Badoni who all featured for MI and Rajasthan Royals during this year’s IPL season; Nishant Sindhu, Priyansh Arya and Nishant Singh have all previously represented senior team squad as well.
