Tests

India and Australia enjoy one of the fiercest rivalries in international cricket. Since 2008, these two sides have met 112 times for Test matches with Australia winning 48 and India 33 wins; thirty tests ended up ending in draws; their most recent encounter came at Sydney Cricket Ground where Australia triumphed by 209 runs in 2023.

India won their inaugural One Day International at Perth Stadium by 124 runs, as Rohit Sharma scored a century to become the fastest Indian to amass 3000 ODI runs and Australia captain Steve Smith became only the third fastest Australian with 100 runs himself! Both captains finished the match by hitting centuries.

Both teams aim to enhance their batting performances during this series. Rohit Sharma will make his comeback after missing selection for Sri Lanka Test due to injury, while Jasprit Bumrah may return after being sidelined during New Zealand tour due to illness.

Jasprit Bumrah was a key component of India’s World Cup victory, where they set records with an extraordinary final against South Africa. Now he will likely play an instrumental role against Australia.

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is widely expected to win this season’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, featuring big names like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shubman Gill who all boast strong forms heading into this match-up.

Australia meanwhile features veteran players like Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis and Alex Carey alongside younger stars Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne along with young talents Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne;

Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon Nathan Starc and Sean Abbott for further support bolstering this squad before concluding at Melbourne Cricket Ground on 10 November. This series starts on 31 October with all participants gathering at Brisbane before finishing on 10 November before concluding at Melbourne Cricket Ground on 10 November 10.

ODIs

India and Australia share one of the greatest rivalries in all of cricket. Over their history they have met 155 ODIs with Australia prevailing 86 times to India’s 59 victories. Both nations have also played each other frequently during major tournaments like ICC World Cup and Champions Trophy tournaments.

No matter their experience, both teams continue to create exciting displays of batsmanship. Both sides boast some of the world’s premier bowlers who can quickly derail any innings with just a few wickets. Recently, Rohit Sharma overtook Steve Smith to become second highest run-scorer in One Day Internationals while Travis Head joined an exclusive club by becoming fastest Australian ever to reach 3000 ODI runs.

In 2023, India and Australia met again at the ICC Cricket World Cup final match in Ahmedabad where Australia defeated them by 209 runs to win their fourth ODI World Cup title. It marked the first time two such diverse styles of play competed against each other in an ODI World Cup final match – during this tournament alone India and Australia have produced some unforgettable cricket moments that stand the test of time.

T20Is

India and Australia will meet for their inaugural T20 International on October 31 at Canberra’s Manuka Oval before moving onto Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 6 for their next match before concluding their series at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval on November 12.

India have enjoyed great success in T20I competition against Australia, winning seven of their eight matches since 2013. India have also proven superior when pitted against their Aussie opponents, taking 20 of 32 T20Is between them.

India last played against Mitch Marsh’s side in 20-over format at a 2024 T20 World Cup tournament held in St Lucia last September and won by 24 runs to reach Super Sixes stage of this competition.

Australia are struggling in T20I matches of late, having only won one out of their last four contests in this format. But their squad still offers plenty of firepower with Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis Tim David Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa amongst its ranks.

Glenn Maxwell was recognized for his stellar performances in the Indian Premier League by receiving a call-up to Australia’s T20I side. One of the world’s premier T20 batsmen, Maxwell is likely to play an integral role throughout this series.

Abhishek Sharma has established himself as one of the premier T20 specialists since emerging as one of the Sunrisers Hyderabad players who won this year’s IPL tournament.

The left-handed Abhishek earned himself the moniker ‘Travishek’ due to his formidable partnership with Travis Head; it will be interesting to see how they fare together when they compete against Australian opposition for their inaugural T20 series Down Under.

Spinners Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott will miss early stages of this T20I series as they prepare for Sheffield Shield duties with one eye on England’s forthcoming Ashes tour. Ben Dwarshuis and Mahli Beardman – two fit players making their T20I debut – will step in. Australia will also miss regular T20 spinner Adam Zampa due to a back injury; leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha will replace him.

The Timeline

Australia has traditionally been dominant in Test series between them and India; however, recently India has managed to level the score and draw all four tests 2-2. This year the two sides will each take part in four tests each.

At the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Unfortunately they lost three wickets within 10 overs before V.V.S.

Laxman and Rahul Dravid put on an extraordinary partnership of 376 runs for fourth wicket – making this India’s highest partnership in any wicket in their history! Laxman eventually fell for 281, but India finished up their innings on 657-7d despite this remarkable effort by India.

Australia enjoyed much more success during their second innings with both David Warner and Steven Smith scoring double centuries during their second innings innings innings compared with Indian opponents batting poorly overall and Australia made easy work of their second innings innings; David Warner scored double hundreds during their innings and Australian total 575-9d total at their second innings total 657-7d before Australia’s second innings total was declared at 657-7d, both David Warner and Steven Smith scoring double hundreds during Australia’s second innings total of 657-7d.

On day 3, India were set an unachievable target of 517 to win, but were struggling. Losing three wickets before close and being just 20 runs away from victory at 151/7, Sameer Dighe and Harbhajan Singh put on an incredible late stand to see India to victory and give their side an unforgettable win!

India won by 172 runs at Nagpur to win back the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after four years’ absence, led by Virat Kohli who scored an outstanding 291 not out in their opening innings; Gautam Gambhir made another double century while Ishant Sharma took seven wickets during this test match – all critical elements in victory for India.

Indian cricket dominated Australia in this series, winning five games to seal victory and complete Kohli’s century against them in ODI cricket; Rohit Sharma soon followed him and also reached that mark against them. Now both teams look ahead to an exciting 2025/26 home season where many exciting matches await us: Australia will aim to recapture their form from 2014 as world champions; while India are targeting their first 5-0 series win against Australia since 1981.
