Ngidi hit Zampa with a full delivery from Ngidi and Australia are all out for 198 with Maharaj outstanding among them while Subrayen stood out with great stability during his spell, earning himself his maiden breakthrough and showing great promise as an all-round performer – surely making an appearance soon in Test matches?

Australia vs South Africa 2nd ODI

South Africa have put in some impressive performances during this series, led by captain Faf du Plessis’ top order and bowlers doing their jobs effectively.

Even without Kagiso Rabada on board, South Africa are an unpredictable team who have an ability to adapt on any surface; something which was evident during their second ODI victory over Zimbabwe.

Australia were in trouble after suffering two early wickets at the hands of South Africans Xavier Bartlett (2/45) and Marnus Labuschagne (1/17). South African batsmen responded well to the pressure, with Aiden Markram leading with an innings that comprised 143 balls and scored 123 runs – only Josh Inglis and Cameron Green made it into double figures for Australia during their chase attempt.

Australia managed a late surge and reached 278, but that was never enough to give them any hope of victory in this match. Their lower middle order were unable to cope with Lungi Ngidi’s pace – Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma both fell cheaply under his spell – while Ngidi played an invaluable role for South Africa as his return as replacement for injured spearhead Rabada allowed them to claim five wickets.

Ngidi struck again early in the final session to remove Marsh and leave Australia on 185-8. Head smacked an angled shot into his pads which was caught at midwicket by Markram for another catch at midwicket by him; again, an umpire thought Markram hit it, so no leg-bye shouts were raised against Head.

Ngidi traps Zampa with an accurate short ball which he attempts to cut, but ends up caught at second slip. Stubbs misses another tough opportunity diving in off Ngidi as the Saffas allow the game to drift slightly.

The Saffas’ bowlers have been excellent, yet have failed to display an aggressive edge that will see them dominate an opposition when pressured. That needs to change if they hope to avoid being overwhelmed in two successive series losses; players like Marsh, Inglis and Travis Head must step up with their bat while bowlers need to focus more on providing early breakthroughs.

Australia vs South Africa 3rd ODI

After suffering a stunning defeat in the opening One-Day International (ODI), Australia struggled to keep up with South Africa in the second match and now look set to claim a 2-0 series win in this third ODI.

Australia will try and maintain some pride by avoiding a home whitewash, but is currently facing considerable pressure, with Mitchell Marsh, Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green struggling.

Australian batsman have struggled in both games so far, failing to reach 300 in either innings. The visitors have received a boost from Temba Bavuma’s return – who missed the second match due to workload management considerations – to their side.

Mitchell Starc’s absence has exposed Australia, who were without their fast bowler on tour for reasons to preserve his body for home summer test cricket which will commence November 3. When Starc returns, Australia should expect him back fully and ready to bowl when Test matches commence November 3rd.

Bavuma has been South Africa’s standout player throughout this series and will look to add another chapter in his illustrious career with another stellar performance against Australia. Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram and Matthew Breetzke have also out-performed their Australian counterparts across all disciplines.

South African bowlers have outshone their Australian counterparts in terms of dismantling Australia’s top order and spinning Keshav Maharaj has taken five wickets across both games so far.

Australia vs South Africa 4th ODI

Australia’s batsmen are finding it difficult to keep pace with South Africa at the Highveld. Ngidi has done damage with an exceptional bowling performance while Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen have laid the groundwork for South Africa to dominate with bat and ball.

Additionally, Travis Head remains a major concern as captain; on-screen footage showed him sporting both plaster and splint on his hand but still appearing confident enough to play through pain as he attempts to play through.

Zampa gets some respite in the 20th over when he survives an lbw review off Markram’s bowling, only for it not to last long; his bowler quickly came back into play catching Ellis off his first delivery which shot low and struck low against the stumps, Australia were in trouble as their required run rate passed eight and Zampa needed eight runs at that rate or lose.

29th Over: Australia 149-7 (Marsh 68 and Dwarshuis 19) Marsh misjudges Maharaj’s fuller and misses it completely, yet is given not out after review as it did hit his stumps. South Africa must show greater ruthlessness but they are currently failing in this department.

37th Over: Australian Men’s Cricket Team Vs South Africa National Cricket Team Match Scorecard — Australia 185-8 (Ellis 7, Zampa 1). Marsh is eyeing up another hundred, but the South African bowlers are holding firm, particularly Ngidi, who has just grabbed another wicket.

With that delivery, he digs one in short that Dwarshuis just couldn’t make contact with, securing another wicket and giving South Africa a comfortable victory. The result levels the series at 2-2 as both sides move to Johannesburg for their last matchup.
