Lotzeir Brooks

As Alabama faced a 17-point deficit against Oklahoma on Friday night during their College Football Playoff first round game, it appeared as though its season would come tumbling to an end. Yet thanks to some timely defensive and special team plays from Alabama’s defense and special teams units, they managed to overcome it and win 34-24 – led by rookie wide receiver Lotzeir Brooks’ contribution.

Brooks had an outstanding performance, leading his team in receptions with five and scoring two touchdowns. His average catch distance was 15.8 yards per catch while three of four targets became first downs. Furthermore, he amassed 36 yards on kickoff returns.

Brooks excelled during Alabama’s second-half comeback, as it rode an unprecedented 27-point run that featured two touchdowns from him. First he caught a nine-yard pass on third down for Conor Talty’s field goal attempt before later breaking free from defenders to score 30-yard touchdown in single coverage.

Alabama capitalized on Oklahoma’s missed punt by taking advantage of short fields with several sacks and turnovers to keep Oklahoma off balance, and Brooks helped Alabama take the lead by scoring on a deep post route for seven yards to put Alabama ahead in the third quarter.

Brooks scored his inaugural touchdown of his career to cap a nine-play, 75-yard drive for Alabama and was instrumental in its comeback against No. 1 Indiana in the Rose Bowl on Jan 1.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer noted his presence with two qualities that make him a good player: his quickness and separation skills make him stand out; when combined together this makes him “an exceptional talent”. DeBoer called Lotzeir Brooks an “exceptional talent”. This post Tide WR Lotzeir Brooks joins historic club with multi-touchdown CFP performance appeared first on ClutchPoints

Zabien Brown

Brown is an all-world defensive back with an eye for big plays. Already this season, he has two game-saving interceptions and an fumble return touchdown that have propelled Alabama to a championship win and put him on track to join All-American cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick as only Alabama players with four or more career interceptions.

Santa Ana Mater Dei High School graduate 2024 graduate Thomas Miller was one of the nation’s premier cornerback recruits and chose Alabama over USC, Georgia, and Michigan as his destination. 247Sports and Rivals both gave him five-star ratings; Rivals considered him one of the five cornerbacks nationwide while two47Sports gave him four stars; his 100m times were in the low 11s on track too!

Brown quickly made an impactful debut for Alabama as part of their Crimson Tide defensive unit during his initial year with them, quickly becoming a starter and becoming an indispensable member. Since his first game with Alabama two seasons ago, he has never missed one start and always started.

An excellent tackler with great feel for the game and anticipating where receivers will be on the field is one of Brown’s key assets; yet another strength lies in reading passing plays and anticipating where receivers may appear on the field is perhaps his greatest strength.

Alabama overcame an initial slow start and defeated Oklahoma 34-24 in the 2025 College Football Playoff opening round, as Lotzeir Brooks scored two touchdowns while Deion Burks caught seven passes for 107 yards – while Alabama’s Zabien Brown delivered a game-turning interception for 50-yard touchdown.

Oklahoma struggled early, and could only manage one first down until late in the opening quarter. Alabama capitalized on Sooners special teams miscues – punter Grayson Miller dropped a snap, his punt was blocked, and kicker Tate Sandell missed from 51 yards out – to capitalize on their mistakes and score first. Later in the second quarter, Brown intercepted Mateer for an 80 yard return touchdown that tied the score 17-17 heading into halftime.

Conor Talty

Sooners had chances to score late in the first half, but an dropped pass, missed field goal attempt and Crimson Tide pick six kept them from taking the lead into halftime. Following three plays on their opening drive of the second quarter OU punted after only three plays with Zabien Brown scoring an interception return touchdown for Alabama to tie up the score at 17.

Ty Simpson passed for 232 yards and two touchdowns as No. 9 Alabama came back from a 17-point deficit to beat No. 8 Oklahoma 34-24 in Friday night’s College Football Playoff opener at Norman. Alabama freshman Lotzeir Brooks caught two of Alabama’s four scores despite not scoring during regular season play.

Oklahoma started off slowly in the first quarter, but their defense made up for it by holding Alabama scoreless. Running for 38 yards over its first two drives and turning to quarterback John Mateer who played without tape on his throwing hand; on play three he connected with Deion Burks for 14-yard gain but later punted due to a fumble.

Early in the second quarter, Oklahoma’s defense ignited some life as they forced a three-and-out and were able to take over on their own 25-yard line after forcing another punt due to a fumble by Xavier Robinson and blocked punt by defensive end Taylor Wein. Unfortunately for them though, after these errors happened again they were forced to punt again due to both.

In the third quarter, Oklahoma struggled to get its offense moving. Running back Royce Williams lost a fumble on his initial play of each drive; then quarterback Kenny Hill was sacked on play two before being replaced by backup Febechi Nwaiwu who ran for one first down before punting.

Sooners offense never found its stride in the fourth quarter as Alabama took control in red zone with two mistakes from quarterback Mateer — an interception and lost fumble — allowing Conor Talty’s 40-yard field goal as the game winner for Crimson Tide.

Daniel Hill

Oklahoma Sooners head coach Kalen DeBoer’s initial challenge of Alabama Crimson Tide under new head coach Kalen DeBoer would be winning their inaugural matchup at Bryant-Denny Stadium against No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide is winning, taking an early advantage with kicker Tate Sandell scoring an early first quarter field goal for Oklahoma and Alabama’s subsequent loss could drop them both down to fifth in rankings.

Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson threw an interception to Sooners cornerback Ryan Williams who returned it all the way into Oklahoma’s end zone to give them a 10-0 advantage and prevent Alabama from scoring a touchdown on their opening drive. This gave Oklahoma their first score.

On Alabama’s next possession, punter Blake Doud pinned Oklahoma at its own 3-yard line and allowed them to rush the ball upfield; however, Hill’s fumble gave back possession to Alabama and resulted in kicker Conor Talty scoring a field goal from that distance.

Though Alabama had recovered from their turnover, they continued to struggle offensively. A bad snap by punter Grayson Miller caused a blocked punt which was recovered by Oklahoma’s Isaiah Sategna and returned all the way back to Alabama’s 10-yard line; two plays later John Mateer connected with Sategna for a 7-yard touchdown pass, increasing Oklahoma’s lead 17-0.

Alabama started to play well, but an errant pass from Simpson on third down was intercepted and returned for an 87-yard touchdown by Sategna—Alabama’s third turnover of the day.

The play triggered a run of 27 straight points by the Sooners. The performance highlighted the importance of the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Vs Oklahoma Sooners Football Match Player Stats, particularly the impact of turnovers and defensive touchdowns in the game.
