India made their World T20 semi-final hopes a reality by easily beating Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai. Abhishek Sharma scored an unbeaten half century off 26 balls while Suryakumar Yadav punished Zimbabwe’s poor fielding with an unbeaten 33 from 13 deliveries.

India kept their hopes alive of reaching the semi-finals alive by defeating Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai. Although India allowed Zimbabwe 257 runs, they decimated their bowlers with ease, posting their highest total ever at any T20 World Cup competition.
Abhishek Sharma scored 35-ball half century while Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma combined to add another 84 for India to give themselves a significant edge.
Zimbabwe Captain Sikandar Raza acknowledged his team’s sloppy fielding had cost them in the end. However, he stated they will back their players and aim to play good cricket over the remaining matches. Raza noted that their opening partnership is still an issue and requires further discussion; their final encounter will be against Pakistan.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Team India will tour Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series beginning July 2026 at Harare Sports Club, following their success at T20 World Cup 2025.
This short bilateral assignment should provide both squad rotation and bench testing opportunities ahead of a high-profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign starting January 2027 with Sri Lanka, Australia and Zimbabwe all playing multiple matches against India between Kolkata, Hyderabad and Mumbai – with Zimbabwe also visiting in early 2027 for three-match ODI series against Indian opponents before India hosts them again to begin host them for another three-match T20I series later that year before they come back for more challenging Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2027 action with Sri Lanka then hosting Sri Lanka then hosting Australia before hosting Sri Lanka before welcoming Australia again for three-matches before hosting them for three-match ODI series against Indian opponents before Zimbabwe visits India will visit in early 2027 and later play three-match ODI series against Indian opponents in early 2027 for three-matches against Indian sides against each side!

Zimbabwe will travel to India in January 2027 for a three-match ODI series, as part of their strong recent performances and qualifying for the Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup 2024. Though they eventually lost against Australia and Sri Lanka, their performances showed they could compete against top sides on their day. For India, this short series provides an opportunity for young IPL players to gain international exposure and possibly earn selection for senior side.
KL Rahul will captain India for this series after receiving clearance from the BCCI to play. Washington Sundar was forced out due to injury and will be replaced in the squad by Shahbaz Ahmed.
