1. Kewan Lacy

Kewan Lacy is the real deal; a Doak Walker Award finalist who can run with any college footballer on the field. That was clearly seen during Ole Miss’s thrilling fourth quarter comeback and walk-off safety on its final play of a thrilling Sugar Bowl win that showed an incredible contrast between two elite programs who battled all game long for glory.

Ole Miss outlasted Georgia in all four quarters, yet made an incredible fourth-quarter comeback, thanks to a fumble recovery by Dae’Quan Wright and Trinidad Chambliss’ 57-yard touchdown pass to De’Zhaun Stribling that would have counted against most teams in other contests.

Lucas Carneiro kicked a 47-yard field goal with six seconds remaining that put Ole Miss ahead for good before an onside kick resulted in another safety and sealed their win.

Chambliss and his offense were remarkable in the second half. Chambliss was particularly impressive on third down with his ability to find tracks around defenders from Georgia Bulldogs’ pass rush and throw it with precision onto Harrison Wallace III for an end zone catch resulting in their second touchdown of the game.

The series split was fitting, as both teams proved why they belong among the nation’s premier programs. Both 2025 games featured high scoring and emotional excitement – Sugar Bowl rematch featured one of the most captivating late game finishes seen during a College Football Playoff season in recent history – taking a closer look at player stats helps tell a larger and better tale of rivalry that only got stronger and fiercer this year.

2. Luke Hasz

Luke Hasz’s freshman season at Ole Miss didn’t go as he expected; the Bixby, Oklahoma native was the team’s highest-rated 2025 transfer portal recruit; however, due to a foot injury he couldn’t contribute as expected to their high-octane offense.

Hasz says he learned from this experience and feels ready to make an impactful statement in 2026.

Georgia defeated Ole Miss 43-35 in October but in the Sugar Bowl rematch they came up short thanks to an Ole Miss fourth-quarter rally that ultimately cost Georgia their season. Lucas Carneiro kicked two field goals that put Ole Miss ahead for good.

Once Carneiro’s 51-yarder gave Ole Miss a 6-0 lead, Georgia responded with an extended drive that featured Colbie Young running hard. On fourth down at Ole Miss 31 and gunner Stockton throwing deep to Young who did not have clear path into end zone – play was reviewed and upheld forcing a second-half kickoff.

Georgia made one last attempt at winning, but an out-of-bounds pass went out of bounds off an end zone pylon and resulted in a safety. Rebel kicker Carneiro then hit a 47-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to give Georgia their win and end their 34-34 tie with victory for Georgia.

Georgia had an upstart start but faltered late, falling to Arizona State by 4 points in a dramatic finish. Georgia sophomore DT Jordan Hall and senior linebacker Joenel Aguero suffered heartbreak from their loss but it also served as a reminder of just how strong their rivalry has become – they will likely meet again on Jan 9 for another epic encounter at Fiesta Bowl!

3. Luke Stribling

Ole Miss and Georgia met twice during the 2025 season in two epic contests that both were decided in the fourth quarter. These contests show how these elite programs exchanged momentum while providing some memorable late-game moments that will go down as some of the greatest in college football history.

Georgia defeated Ole Miss in their initial meeting back in October to lead them to an SEC regular-season championship run, while Ole Miss won their Sugar Bowl meeting against Georgia on January 2, and this game produced one of the most memorable late-game moments ever witnessed during a postseason contest.

Lucas Carneiro kicked a 47-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to break a 34-34 tie and give Ole Miss the win, setting his career long field goal record with this kick. Carneiro hit it after Ole Miss moved into field goal range on third and fifth down play that saw quarterback Trinidad Chambliss connect with De’Zhaun Stribling under man coverage on third down.

Stribling and Hasz were responsible for most of Ole Miss’ points in the second half, including Stribling’s late touchdown run to seal it with 1:13 remaining and provide momentum back into their offense after an ineffective start to their second period play. Six different Ole Miss players scored during this crucial final period as Ole Miss gained strength.

In 2025, the Rebels showed remarkable development both offensively and defensively, increasing production across both fields. Their passing game increased from 263 yards to 362, and their kicking game improved from zero field goals scored in Game 1 to three field goals scored three-for-three in Game 2. Such strides are what make this matchup one of college football’s most intriguing rivalries.

4. Harrison Wallace III

The 2025 Sugar Bowl featured two teams with impressive offenses that could move the ball and defend effectively, yet both had defenses that buckled under pressure at times but would come through when needed most. While each game of this series ended up as a tie, the rematch in New Orleans proved most dramatic of them all.

Georgia made an early statement when they took control in the third quarter, opening up an 11-point advantage with just under five minutes remaining through an impressive drive capped off with a fourth-down touchdown pass from Gunner Stockton to Zachariah Branch who caught it in the end zone for their fifth score of the day.

The Rebels immediately responded with a drive of their own, and Trinidad Chambliss’ improvisation skills saved multiple plays from failure to achieve any gain at all. He hit Kewan Lacy for a touchdown run before throwing to Harrison Wallace III for another score.

Lucas Carneiro’s 47-yard field goal with six seconds remaining gave Ole Miss a 34-34 advantage and their kickoff from Georgia went backward and struck an end zone pylon, leading to a safety, giving Ole Miss the victory.

Ole Miss’s next possession offered them another chance to tie the game, but Ole Miss LB Quintavius Johnson intercepted Dae’Quan Wright’s pass intended for Dae’Quan Wright in the end zone with just under 10 seconds remaining and batted it away with his knee – thus giving Ole Miss an advantage they took full advantage of to seal an incredible Sugar Bowl win reminiscent of college football at its best! A classic example of college football.

5. Trinidad Chambliss

Ole Miss quarterback Josh Chambliss was outstanding, extending plays and leading high-tempo touchdown drives that gave Ole Miss some control of a game they weren’t expected to win.

A former D2 champion from Ferris State, Chambliss completed 30 of 46 throws for 362 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 14 yards during Ole Miss’ biggest win ever in school history.

He took over for starter Austin Simmons early in the second quarter and proved an integral factor in helping the Rebels take victory.

Chambliss displayed exceptional improvisational abilities on two high-scoring drives in the fourth, saving several plays that would’ve resulted in no gain at best, while making essential throws that set up game-winning field goals.

Chambliss got things rolling for Georgia on their subsequent drive by connecting with Luke Hasz for a 3-yard pass. But after their two-point conversion attempt failed, Georgia was forced to punt on their subsequent possession.

After several long drives for both teams, Ole Miss got an unexpected gift when Georgia missed its final opportunity to score in the first half. Georgia was driving at Ole Miss’ 45-yard line on third down when Landon Roldan failed to complete his attempt at lateraling. Lucas Carniero then made an incredible 47-yard game-winning field goal!

Chambliss hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan. After playing football at Forest Hills Northern and Division II powerhouse Ferris State, where he won two national championships as the starting quarterback during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, he transferred to Ole Miss before the 2025 season as the backup to Austin Simmons.

His outstanding performance against Georgia quickly made him one of the biggest surprises of the year, and he has continued to impress with his poise and playmaking ability.

His contributions are a key highlight in Ole Miss Rebels Football Vs Georgia Bulldogs Football Match Player Stats, showcasing how his passing efficiency, leadership, and clutch decision-making helped shape one of the most exciting matchups of the season.
