Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are leading the pack after a dominant season, while Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans (GT) sit in second.
Both sides will be hoping to add a trophy to their collections this season. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have endured disappointing campaigns and will be keen to improve on their recent form.
IPL 2026 has been a fascinating affair with new faces emerging as breakout stars and familiar names stepping up to the plate to impress. In the run-up to the knockout stage, the ten teams will be desperate to secure top-four finishes, which is a must if they want to play in the final.
The top two teams from each group will go through to the semifinals, while the third-placed team will face the fifth-placed team in a one-off match. The winners of each semifinal will then take on the runner-up from the other group in a one-off match to decide the final spot in the tournament’s big finale.
The first phase of the IPL is underway, with 10 teams competing in 74 action-packed matches across 13 venues. The 2026 edition of the world’s premier Twenty20 cricket league features a number of intriguing matchups, including the defending champions against their bitter rivals.
Throughout the campaign, a number of records have been broken, including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking 776, which broke Chris Gayle’s previous record.
Kagiso Rabada’s impressive form has also helped RCB claim the top spot in the points table. Other notable milestones include Shreyas Iyer’s record-breaking 7,000 T20 run total and Rajat Patidar’s historic 12 sixes against SRH in the Eliminator.
Matches
Punjab Kings (PBKS) have climbed to fifth spot in the Orange Cap and Purple Cap tables after making light work of five-time champions Mumbai Indians in Match No 24.
PBKS are led by a pair of in-form batsmen in Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer, both of whom scored unbeaten half-centuries to help their side chase down 188.
Gujarat Titans (GT) are on the brink of becoming number one side in the IPL 2026 Points Table after hammering Sunrisers Hyderabad by 82 runs in their home match No 56 at the DY Patil Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The loss of senior Australian pacer Mitchell Starc to injury will certainly hurt GT, but they can still qualify for the Playoffs.
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) remain second on the points table after beating KKR by four wickets at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur in Match No 57 on Wednesday. The RCB can replace GT at the top if they defeat Kolkata Knight Riders in their next game against each other.
Teams
Having narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season, Delhi Capitals will be looking to avoid peaking too early and carry their momentum all the way through in the second year of Axar Patel’s tenure as captain. They have a well-rounded squad, with explosive options in the batting order led by Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka and South Africa’s Tristan Stubbs.
The presence of run-machine KL Rahul further bolsters DC’s batting. In the bowling department, they have world-class pace options in Mitchell Starc and Lungi Ngidi, as well as spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel.
The top of the Orange Cap table is largely unchanged, but there are some players moving up the ranks. PKKS’ Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer have moved up to Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, after their dominant showing in the team’s win over MI on Thursday.
The list is rounded out by LSG’s Ravi Bishnoi and Prince Yadav, RCB’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya. MI’s Shardul Thakur is also in the top ten with six wickets. However, he has yet to play a full match this season.
Players
The top of the Orange and Purple Cap tables remain unchanged, though some players are making a late push for glory. Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) pair of Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer, who both scored unbeaten hundreds in their win over Mumbai Indians on Thursday, have jumped up to Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, in the Orange Cap table, which is headed by RCB’s Virat Kohli.
Meanwhile, Anshul Kamboj of Gujarat Titans (GT) has overtaken KKR’s Prince Yadav to become one of the top wicket-takers in the Purple Cap table, which is led by Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Jofra Archer and SRH’s Ishan Kishan. These latest performances are also reflected in the Ipl 2026 Table, as teams and players continue to compete for top positions.
