ODIs
New Zealand scored an historic series win against India by beating them by two wickets at Holkar Stadium in Indore in their inaugural bilateral ODI series there.
Daryl Mitchell’s 137 and Glenn Phillips’s 106 were enough for New Zealand to post 337-8, proving too much for India despite Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 124 off 108 balls; Zak Foulkes three-wicket haul ensured their efforts went wasted as India suffered a 2-1 series loss.
India and New Zealand have faced each other in 123 one-day international (ODI) matches since 1999; India have won 63 while New Zealand have prevailed 52.
The teams most recent encounter took place in January 2026 when New Zealand won their five-match series 3-0; this was also the final time they met prior to 2019 World Cup; after this meeting ends they’ll meet up again for five-match T20 series starting 21 January.
T20Is
New Zealand will embark on a white-ball tour of India as the Black Caps seek to gain momentum ahead of World Cup 2026. The series will consist of five T20Is and three ODIs; with the first ODI set for 21 January in Vadodara followed by three subsequent matches at that same venue – providing both teams an ideal opportunity to test themselves under various conditions before heading into their World Cup contests.
Shikhar Dhawan’s shoulder injury forced India to recall Prithvi Shaw for their New Zealand tour and is due back for the second ODI match on 30 January.
Rohit Sharma will also play in these last two ODIs of the series and both batsmen have had solid runs of form recently; hopefully both can continue their good performances!
New Zealand will enter their T20Is series against India without Brendon McCullum, Tim Southee, and Kane Williamson due to shoulder injury; nonetheless, they should still be strong with the ball as seen during previous series in India.
India triumph over New Zealand by 46 runs in 5th T20I to seal series win
T20I series
The New Zealand national cricket team, commonly referred to as “The Black Caps,” represents New Zealand in professional cricket competition.
Competing across Test cricket, one day internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 Internationals, they currently rank fifth with the International Cricket Council for Test matches and fourth for one dayers; managed by New Zealand Cricket.
New Zealand is an island nation in the southern Pacific Ocean, famous for its natural beauty and cricket’s widespread popularity.
First recorded there by missionary William Horotutu in 1832, English people later adopted cricket as a socialization tool and later hosted T20I series against visiting teams. Today there are multiple international-standard stadiums throughout New Zealand which host cricket matches of this nature, as well as numerous T20I matches against visiting teams.
New Zealand may have one of the lowest populations for Test-playing nations, yet remains highly competitive at international tournaments.
They won the inaugural World Test Championship and reached both 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup finals; plus making four semi-finals and one final appearance out of eight T20 World Cup appearances. Their Black Caps have become known for punching above their weight with smart use of resources despite having limited resources at their disposal.
New Zealand cricket team is an elite unit, featuring Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro and Dan Vettori amongst its ranks. Boasting an abundance of talent across formats they possess the capability of winning any contest they play in – the Black Caps have an exceptional record against India having won both Test matches at Auckland and Wellington recently – they remain one of only four teams ever to have whitewashed India over multiple Test series!
The Black Caps have established themselves as one of the most reliable teams worldwide. Never having lost a Test match in their history and boasting strong records against all nations in ODIs and T20Is, their record speaks for itself.
Under Mike Hesson’s tutelage they have never tasted defeat; winning five Cricket World Cups as well as Coach of the Year awards on four separate occasions is testament to this.
ODI series win
After the disappointment in 2023, India have come back swinging. They delivered one of their finest performances yet and deserve all of their acclaim as now they are recognized as one of the greatest teams in ODI cricket and truly exciting to watch.
New Zealand batted first in the final ODI against India and openers Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls looked set to build an unbreakable partnership, until Arshdeep caught Nicholls edging a short ball to Ravindra Jadeja at backward point, who made an extraordinary diving effort before catching him out.
Harshit Rana then dismissed Mitchell Hay of New Zealand with a full cutter that stuck in the pitch and hit his stumps off its inside edge, leaving them 5-2 down after only six overs of play.
Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips responded calmly, rebuilding with measured batting. Mitchell hit Kuldeep Yadav’s fifth over for six, overtaking Shai Hope (167) to become one of his four highest scorers in ODIs.
Prior to Rohit Sharma falling to Zak Foulkes in the fourth over and captain Shreyas Iyer being bowled by Kyle Jamieson in the seventh, Jayden Lennox struck to remove veteran KL Rahul. At that point the hosts were reeling at 71 for four in 13 overs.
Kohli once again came to India’s rescue at Holkar Stadium with an unbeaten 124-ball innings – his 54th ODI century was ultimately in vain as South Africa recorded their first-ever series win against India with a 41-run win.
New Zealand named an unchanged side, barring injured player Prasidh Krishna who will likely be replaced by left-arm spinner Arshdeep Singh taking up new ball duties instead of Mohammed Siraj. Also making their ODI debut was Kris Clarke while Jayden Lennox will share new ball duties between games.
