ODIs

The One Day International (ODI) format of cricket is the premier white ball competition, played between teams of equal strength.

These competitions serve to identify the world’s best teams while simultaneously promoting cricket across different markets. While its popularity continues to increase, particularly within the United States.

As opposed to Test cricket, where matches typically span an entire season, ODI series are completed within three days, making it easier for fans to attend matches and watch their favorite players live in action.

Furthermore, due to shorter matches featuring fewer fielders, more fans tend to watch these ODI matches both live and on television.

Recently, there have been significant modifications to the One Day International (ODI) format. For instance, the International Cricket Council (ICC) implemented fielding restrictions that prohibit teams from playing defensive fields; this change caused many teams to opt for more Twenty20 Internationals as opposed to One Dayers; which has decreased overall international game numbers considerably – something which causes great concern regarding cricket’s future.

India will travel to Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I and ODI series beginning July 27. This will mark Suryakumar Yadav’s first series as captain, providing valuable experience ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The opening T20 International will likely be an intense match, with both sides fighting hard for every run. But Sri Lanka’s experienced batting lineup may prove too much for India to handle; their top order batsmen such as Charith Asalanka, Kusal Perera and Wanindu Hasaranga can make big scores quickly in short amounts of time and their bowlers have also been in top form recently; making this matchup one to watch!

T20Is

Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) involve teams playing a single innings of 20 overs in a shortened format of cricket that has helped popularize it worldwide. T20Is are recognized as one of three forms of professional men’s cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Each team can field up to four bowlers, and each bowler may only bowl eight overs per innings. The first six overs of an innings are considered “powerplay”; teams are encouraged to score quickly during these overs, before moving into “regular” overs; should both teams tie at the end of an innings regular innings, a “super over” will be held; its winner will determine who wins the match.

India and Sri Lanka have squared off in 171 one-day internationals (ODI), with India winning 99 and drawing two.

At T20I tournaments, each team may include no more than five batsmen and nine fielders for maximum offense, designed to capture global attention. Furthermore, innings are restricted to 20 overs for faster scoring and shorter game play.

Sri Lanka has struggled this season. They recently lost to Pakistan and are behind in ODI rankings; but they will look to rebound against India – who has played well so far – over the next few games. India have shown strength but will need to work harder against Sri Lanka to overcome them.

Tests

Test cricket is the longest and most comprehensive form of the sport, spanning five days over four innings for each side. The side that scores the most runs usually wins, though sometimes margins can be smaller (or even zero) in cases when both sides all out before reaching each other’s total score – however this rarely results in a tie match!

Since Sri Lanka was admitted to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1952, they have played 171 tests between themselves. India have won 99 tests while Sri Lanka have triumphed on 59 occasions. There have also been 11 ties between them (tie counts as half win) – their last encounter took place in 2024.

Streaming

Streaming services have quickly become a staple of cricket fan experience, enabling fans to watch live matches from mobile devices and Smart TVs.

They provide many advantages to fans including faster response times and reduced data usage; full match videos; replays of key moments; full match videos available upon demand and more.

While streaming can offer many advantages over other forms of viewing for fans, large audiences present challenges when streaming services experience outages that cause upset for many of their users.

India and Sri Lanka’s series is an eventful one for both teams. Both the ODI and T20I series will test new captains’ leadership and strategies while providing an insight into future cricket in both nations – while providing emerging talents a chance to showcase their abilities.

Rohit Sharma leads India, while Shubman Gill serves as vice-captain. Both formats will feature some familiar faces such as Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as key contributors – this series marks an essential step towards their preparations for hosting the 2024 T20 World Cup tournament jointly hosted by both countries.

The inaugural One Day International will take place at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, July 27. It will be broadcast live by Sony XPLUS and Sony ESPN with commentary provided by Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble in both English and Hindi. In addition to main broadcasters such as Sony XPLUS and Sony ESPN, several local channels will also air the match for free within the US; subscription options for users outside this region may also be made available for a subscription fee.
