India vs Afghanistan 1st Test
India beat Afghanistan by an innings and 73 runs in their Test debut match at Bengaluru to set up a three-match ODI series. Afghanistan last played Test cricket against Zimbabwe at Harare last year and this victory marked their return to longer formats of cricket since debuting at Harare last summer.
Rain limited this game to two days and 12 overs were lost on Day One due to India winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Afghanistan saw newcomers such as Mohammad Shahzad, Yamin Ahmadzai, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afsar Zazai Rashid Khan Wafadar Momand and Mujeeb Ur Rahman make their Test debuts for Afghanistan.
India was led by Ajinkya Rahane without Virat Kohli for their Test match in Ireland last week and assisted by Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja’s spinner duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav returned for its debut Test against Afghanistan eight years after last having competed against them at Test venue level.
Both teams are looking ahead to next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup where both nations will compete three matches against one another before meeting again at Test venue next week – it will mark India-Afghanistan encounter.
