West Indies and Australia have competed in 29 Games since 2019. Australia leads overall head-to-head competition, winning 14 Games while 10 were lost, 10 tied games were drawn out.
Josh Hazlewood smashed through the hosts’ batting line-up in Sabina Park during the final session, striking early after tea to remove Kraigg Brathwaite (4) as they lost their way and lose momentum.
Tests
West Indies Cricket Team vs Australian Men’s Cricket Team Match Scorecard have not won a Test match in Australia since 2009. That fact will likely come back into their minds when they step foot onto Grenada’s field on Friday, serving as an important reminder of just how low they currently stand.
Windies bowlers did everything they could in the first innings to keep things tight – Alzarri Joseph captured Pat Cummins from his very first ball on day four, and later helped restrict Alex Carey to five runs over his overnight score with two wicket-taking deliveries from Alzarri Joseph.
But it wasn’t enough. On a day where Windies batsmen struggled, Australia dismissed them for just 27 runs before going on to win comfortably by 133 runs – the lowest total ever achieved against Windies at home by any visiting side in a Test match.
T20Is
West Indies will look to end their six-match winless run and avoid a fourth consecutive defeat when they take on Australia in the fifth match of their series at Arnos Vale Stadium in St Kitts and Nevis in T20Is, as only one victory has come out of eight T20Is since January 1. Australia have only managed two victories from six T20Is overall since losing one recently; nonetheless they are hopeful they can maintain their dominance throughout.
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews will aim to lead her side to victory against an impressive Australian squad featuring Big Bash stars Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry, as well as fine tune their plans for next month’s T20 World Cup tournament in England.
Tim David’s remarkable century propelled Australia to an emphatic six-wicket win in their inaugural T20I at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis. With 11 sixes and four fours en route to his maiden T20I hundred off just 37 balls he completed an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 128 with Mitchell Owen, who scored 37 off 17 balls!
He was dropped at long on in the sixth over with the score at 25-3 but continued his superb form by hitting some extraordinary shots – including hitting five sixes in two overs – to reach 100 not out off 23 balls and form an unbroken seventh-wicket partnership of 152 with Owen, who hit four sixes and three fours himself before Australia sealed an easy win and took a 3-0 lead in their series.
West Indies will make their first tour to Australia since 1992/93 and hope to win their first overseas T20 series against one of the top-8 sides since then – they lost 25 out of 26 T20 Internationals against such sides before emerging victorious against New Zealand in 2009/2010.
ODIs
Australia finally managed to shake its dismal Test tour to the Windies behind them with an emphatic eight-wicket victory against them in Melbourne – their first since 1997 in fact and the biggest overseas series win against top-8 sides since New Zealand in 1994/95!
Debutant fast bowler Xavier Bartlett produced one of the finest opening spells ever seen by an Australian on their ODI debut in five overs, finishing with figures of 4-17 as Australia limited India to only 231 all out. His victims included experienced batsmen Justin Greaves and Roston Chase who combined for a 110-run fifth wicket stand before Carty was run out by Sean Abbott who scored more than 20 runs himself – only visiting player to do so!
Steve Smith and Cameron Green guided their hosts home with scores of 79 not out and 77 not out respectively, before spinner Josh Inglis added 65 runs in a swift final over. It marked his highest ODI score to date.
T20I Series
Twenty-over (T20) cricket is a fast-paced, twenty-over version of the game played between international teams recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with each innings limited to twenty overs including powerplay. It is one of three professional formats of cricket alongside first-class and List A cricket.
T20 matches typically last about 1:30hrs with short breaks between innings. Some matches also feature a “super over,” an additional over at the end of play in which both teams receive 6 legal balls; the team scoring the most runs wins the match.
