Rankings

At IPL season, fans and teams alike closely scrutinize the points table as an impartial unbiased arbiter of who are the top teams and which four qualifie for playoff races. Furthermore, close playoff races often bring excitement due to fine margins deciding who qualifies.

The rules are straightforward; each win earns two points while defeats accrue none. Ties are broken using net run rate; therefore teams need to focus on more than just winning games in order to achieve higher rankings.

With playoffs rapidly approaching, it is crucial that teams understand how every match impacts their chances of reaching the top four. Our new Impact Analysis feature leverages our sophisticated Match Prediction and Monte Carlo Simulation engines to show exactly how potential outcomes impact each team’s qualification chances.

Simply enter results of upcoming matches and our tool will calculate delta probabilities; additionally it has history tracking features as well as WhatsApp share functionality so your fan group can easily share information.

Playoffs

The playoffs are a single-elimination tournament with the higher seed receiving home field advantage and hosting all matches leading up to the championship final at an agreed upon site.

The winner of this competition advances into the Premiership league as its bottom team while in previous seasons an extra play-off match would also take place between the lowest ranked Premiership club and the top team from Championship, with its winner assuming that they meet Premiership criteria (if necessary).

Before 2009-10, the top six teams played home-and-away matches while those ranked 7-14th were divided into two groups and placed into double round-robin tournaments with each other; three of these groups earned European tickets while their fourth-ranked team faced off against their fifth-ranked counterpart to battle for one more European ticket in a knockout match against them for final spot in each group.

The current Elite League playoff format resembles that used in the Top 14: in the first two rounds, home-ice advantage goes to the team with the better regular season record; thereafter it shifts according to seeding in subsequent rounds.

Furthermore, all series are best-of-7 from round one; champions automatically advance while runners-up enter a one-off play-off for promotion to Pro D2. Starting in 2009 at neutral sites rather than four team playoffs were used for promotion between rounds two and three of Pro D2.

Eliminator

The Points Table Ipl has long provided plenty of excitement while offering a clear way to evaluate teams’ strengths and weaknesses. It helps determine which teams are performing consistently and which are struggling. Finishing in the top four typically secures a place in the playoffs, while the Eliminator gives teams another opportunity to progress toward the final.

As of 2026, RCB lead the Points Table, with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians also competing strongly based on their points and net run rate. The final league-stage results ultimately determine the teams that qualify for the Eliminator and other playoff stages.
