India continued their stellar Under-19 World Cup run today by crushing Zimbabwe by 204 runs in their first Super Six match of Group 2. After defeating USA and New Zealand during group stage play, they needed until today’s match to put their stamp on Group 2, but did so in style by playing an impressive innings that blended power and patience.
Even after losing opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi early, India’s top order managed to rebuild momentum effectively. Vihaan Malhotra and Abhigyan Kundu shared an outstanding 113-run partnership in the middle – both batsmen displaying maturity beyond their years; Kundu scored his 61 with excellent placement and strike rotation while Malhotra’s unbeaten 109 was an extraordinary display of composure and balance.
Henil Patel and RS Ambrish’s quick bowlers quickly removed Kian Blignaut and Leeroy Chiwaula with relative ease to leave Zimbabwe reeling at 24 for 3. Despite some resistance from Chiwaula and Kian Blignaut, India’s disciplined bowlers sealed victory in 37 overs.

India made an emphatic start to their Super Six campaign at the Under-19 World Cup with an innings and 204 run win against Zimbabwe at their opening Super Six match, crushing them by an innings and 204 runs. Chasing 182, India quickly established an advantage thanks to Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s unbeaten 52 off 30 balls as India chased 182. Zimbabwe managed a brief comeback towards the end of their innings thanks to Dion Myers and Clive Madande combining for an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 77 runs at sixth wicket but India held on to complete victory within 15 overs.
India quickly established their intent from the outset as they raced to 100 in just 11 overs with Suryavanshi leading them. Though Ayush Mhatre’s departure briefly stalled the effort, Vihaan Malhotra and Vedant Trivedi quickly put together a crucial 113-run partnership between themselves that propelled India back into control of proceedings.
Zimbabwe was unable to capitalize on their opportunities and the top order crumbled as pace pair RS Ambrish and Henil Patel applied pressure. They reduced Zimbabwe to 24-3 within nine overs, as its hopes of reaching the semi-finals vanished with that.
Tatenda Chimugoro delivered an early blow, dismissing Ayush Mhatre with a fuller delivery outside off stump that got an edge and flew straight into Nathaniel Hlabangana’s gloves.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was on form, racing to his half-century off 30 balls. Their flawless 156-run partnership ensured India took control of the series comfortably; and Jaiswal’s remarkable century was another step towards reaching 2000 T20I runs!
India won the toss and elected to field, unleashing its bowlers against Zimbabwean batsmen with devastating accuracy. Tushar Deshpande and Khaleel Ahmed made debut appearances, both taking two wickets each to limit Zimbabwe to just 152/7 from their 20 overs played on an attractive surface.

India will now head into a dead rubber match, but this win was still an opportunity for them to showcase their depth and talent. Their young side can compete with even the best sides worldwide and has an exciting future ahead of them.
While Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will remain central figures in the Indian team, now is the time for young talent to step forward and prove themselves. Players like Shivam Dube and Sanju Samson could use this game as an opportunity to push for top-order positions down the line; spinner Ravi Bishnoi wowed management with his googlies that Zimbabwe batsmen found hard to read; his performance has made an impressionful case that he could become one of India’s premier spin-all-rounders; potentially even becoming India’s premiere spinner-all-rounders down the road!
