India
India’s national cricket team is widely considered one of the most successful teams in international cricket history, having won major tournaments such as the Cricket World Cup and Champions Trophy, while its members have also garnered individual honors and awards.
Managed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), founded in 1929 to represent India within the International Cricket Council, and employing an innovative “zonal selection policy where selectors from different regions help choose players for inclusion on national team selection committees – Ajit Agarkar serves as its current chief selector.
After the 1980s, India experienced difficulty maintaining consistency across their matches at home and abroad. To combat this problem, the BCCI implemented a new coaching system and enhanced player training – this allowed for an increase in competitiveness of Indian cricket teams as they won major tournaments including 1992 Cricket World Cup.
India in the late 90s boasted an exciting young core of players that included Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath – these three additions allowing India’s performance to significantly improve – although Test matches outside India still proved challenging for India to win.
MS Dhoni was named captain of India’s limited-overs team in 2007 and led them to victory at the inaugural T20 World Cup held in South Africa. Since then, under Dhoni’s guidance, India have gone on to claim numerous other trophies, becoming one of the dominant forces in international cricket.
While their successes are undeniable, some decisions such as packing their team with all-rounders over specialists has come under scrutiny from fans and critics. Yet even with all this success on display by India it still has the potential for even greater successes if players and coaches work hard together – through improving techniques or playing more efficiently – to maximize this potential in future success.
