Jaylen Wright was stopped on his initial drive by linebacker Noah Sewell from scoring. However, later in the game he scored on a 7-yard run to tie the game.

Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright is a running back for the Miami Dolphins who was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. To date, he has amassed 12 yards rushing. Throughout this upcoming season he is expected to play an integral part in their offense.
Wright managed to break through Bears defense and race up the sideline for an 18-yard run, giving his Dolphins team an early 17-14 lead at quarter end and ending up tied at 24 at halftime.
Caleb Williams suffered an injury later in the second half, so backup quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Quinn Ewers led three touchdown drives as part of their offense to finally push past Bears defense and secure victory for their side of the court.
Chicago kicker Cairo Santos kicked a 57-yard field goal to put his team ahead 21-13 in the third quarter and would go on to kick another 56-yarder late in the game to secure victory for Chicago. Santos and former Michigan State kicker Jonathan Kim have been competing for their placekicking duties.
Bears linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga left early with a shoulder injury, never returning. Safety Major Burns sustained knee damage that required him to miss significant time during the first quarter. Cornerback Travin Homer also sustained an injury on an attempted tackle late in the first quarter; rookie Deion Hankins replaced him.
These injuries dealt a significant blow to Coach Ben Johnson’s new team as they dropped to 0-1. Coach Johnson will have plenty of work ahead of him to improve it when it heads back out to Detroit for two joint practices and preseason match-ups on August 16 – looking to win!
Alexander Mattison
After an inauspicious start against the Bears in their preseason match-up, the Dolphins came storming back late with several touchdowns that helped overcome an early deficit. Running back Alexander Mattison led their charge, powering into the end zone for their opening score and Maurice Alexander of Bears responded by plunging deep into it for their second.
The Dolphins defense was also impressive against a Chicago Bears offense which entered with one of the NFL’s premier offenses. Miami’s newcomers to its defensive unit such as cornerbacks Byron Maxwell and Davon Godfrey and linebacker Mike Humphries all made an impactful contribution while Chicago receivers struggled against Miami’s press coverage to get open.
Mattison has become a key component in starting roles over his two seasons since being promoted from his reserve status. Additionally, his versatile game has allowed him to secure 226 pass-blocking reps over time (Pro Football Focus).
He’ll remain an indispensable component of the Dolphins’ offense this season; over his last two games he has averaged an impressive 6.2 average yards per carry while also notching three receptions.
No one knows yet whether he will return this season, but the fact that he was able to return after suffering a fractured neck and dislocated spine is encouraging. With his doctors’ permission, he hopes he’ll rejoin the Dolphins next season.
Mattison suffered his neck injury when he was tackled and fell onto his head during a game against the Bears on August 10th. He did not return, with Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel later noting he had soreness in both his neck and shoulder area.
Former Boise State running back Brandon Johnson is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the 2024 season. He’ll compete for starting jobs against fellow running backs Jaylen Wright and Maurice Alexander as well as rookie tight end Josue Jefferson – with Wright expected to serve as his primary rushing threat while Alexander could potentially see more work on third or fourth down situations with two yards or less to gain.
Quincy Enunwa
Quincy Enunwa was Nebraska’s standout receiver in 2013. He caught 51 passes for 753 yards and led the Big Ten with 12 receiving touchdowns, tying his career high as well as matching Johnny Rodgers’ 2010 school record of 12 touchdown receptions.
Enunwa started all 14 games for Nebraska that season and recorded at least three receptions in each. He amassed 50 receiving yards seven times – including back-to-back 50-reception performances against Michigan and Iowa – making Enunwa one of NU’s most productive receiving duos ever seen both within conference play as well as school history.
Enunwa made the most of his opportunity as a starter during 2021. He quickly established himself as one of Taylor Martinez and Ben Roethlisberger’s go-to targets, catching 21 passes for 393 yards in 21 receptions over four games with at least six receptions per game – and his 71-yard catch against Chattanooga was his longest touchdown catch ever seen on college athletic fields.
His greatest game came against Northwestern in Week Two of Big Ten play when he caught eight passes for 109 yards and forced a fumble after Taylor Martinez intercepted it, helping NU come back from 12 points down for an upset victory.
Enunwa’s inaugural season as a starting receiver wasn’t exactly successful due to injuries that limited his participation. He missed 10 regular season games with a hamstring issue before reinjuring his neck against Buffalo during preseason play and landing him on the PUP list for much of 2019.
Enunwa was dominant against the Bears. He not only ran twice for 17 yards but also threw three touchdown passes and scored on one rushing attempt. His 61-yard pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine set up their initial score and his 34-yard completion to Tahj Washington led them directly into their second scoring drive.
Chicago rookie safety Major Burns left the game with a knee injury during the first half and did not return; running back Travis Homer (calf) and linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga (shoulder) also left due to medical reasons, although they are expected to return next week against Buffalo.
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips made an immediate impactful debut for Miami and played a significant role in their first two drives – both ending with Alexander Mattison touchdown runs of one yard each; their goal-line stand saw four straight Jaylen Wright runs denied by Bears linebacker Noah Sewell.
Backup quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Quinn Ewers led Miami on three more scoring drives, but Jason Sanders’ 56-yard field goal with 6:22 remaining secured the tie game in Ben Johnson’s Chicago coaching debut. Safety Major Burns left early due to an injury.
The Bears recorded six sacks against Dolphins quarterbacks, including one by rookie defensive end Austin Booker during a third-quarter sack of Wilson.
