1st Test
India have reached 359-3, thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill’s stand of 127 not out, taking control of this Test match before teatime.
England had an inconsistent start, but have found their form now. Jos Buttler took an early wicket to give England some momentum before Dom Bess put a halt to India’s innings with one that hit Kohli off-guard for an edge which Buttler quickly caught at short midwicket.
Anderson then produced an outstanding spell. First he employed an inswinging delivery to take out Rahane’s off-stump and then an off-cutting delivery through the gap that bowled Rahane out, but England’s review request was declined.
Ben Stokes has returned with the new ball and quickly draws Jaiswal forward with some high quality deliveries, where his left-hander edges it on its initial bounce to Brook at slip but it rolls into his helmet sitting behind him, giving India a five run bonus.
Meanwhile, in similar fashion he almost managed to con Pant with an extravagantly loopy slower ball which caused the batsman to shoulder his arms in despair at it – this all becoming very worrying for England at this stage; nevertheless their bowlers have done some good work so far; hopefully their bowlers can continue this momentum into this evening session!
2nd Test
India achieved an astonishing comeback at Birmingham after blowing their chances at Headingley by pulling off an impressive heist to take a 2-1 advantage in the series.
Akash Deep removed Pope and Brook in quick succession while Washington Sundar caught Stokes – taking India ahead before Joe Root was caught at cover by Jadeja and India were in complete control.
Shubman Gill then produced an outstanding exhibition of batsmanship, his 269 – the highest ever by an Indian Test captain at Edgbaston – providing the foundation of an incredible 587 total. Showing patience and precision while forging marathon partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja (89) and Washington Sundar (42) while bowlers such as Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep (who took six for 71 in England’s first innings and 10 overall in this match) tore through England’s top order with ease.
Eyebrows were raised when Bumrah was replaced by Akash Deep as captain but the youngster quickly proved why he’s one of the world’s most promising seamers.
With his pace and accuracy he tore into batters’ stumps at different angles to trouble their batsmen before becoming the second youngest Indian after Chetan Sharma to take a 10-wicket haul in England – giving India its first win ever at Edgbaston and breaking an eight-year jinx!
3rd Test
After India stunned England at Edgbaston to level the five-match series, they will travel back to Lord’s, which boasts such rich cricketing tradition that this may well prove a classic contest.
As Stokes takes charge at the Nursery End, an anxious atmosphere envelops the stadium. He dodges out of the way of an outgoing bumper that misses, then bowls one straight which Jadeja defends well enough against. But his next delivery goes high and lands squarely in the middle of the pitch; and now everyone in attendance is rising to their feet in anticipation.
Bumrah finds himself in trouble, yet manages to avoid an lbw shout with his first ball back onto the deck. After that he gets an inside-edge on to Archer’s pads which only manages to go towards short leg.
Carse fields the final delivery in an over at deep backward square and guides it towards mid-on for a single, prompting India’s supporters to celebrate wildly.
Siraj looks heartbroken as his teammates try to console him. It seems he gave everything for this cause, yet it wasn’t to be. This scene elevated Test cricket above all others for an instantaneous moment in history. Now comes an extended wait until next test matches resume – we hope to see you then! – Sagar Chawla of BBC Sports Editor
4th Test
The fifth and final Test between England and India will take place at The Oval on Thursday (11:00 BST), with both sides still having something to play for.
England would have thought they had an edge after amassing 669 runs in their opening innings; however, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar put up an incredible fight that kept England from attaining that victory.
Jadeja hits Liam Dawson short to deep square leg for six! That was his first of the day and brings up to 85. After being sent in at No. 5, Jadeja has played an outstanding innings with captain’s flair!
England launched another appeal for LBW this time, but was denied. That meant one more wicket fell for India with Rishabh Pant leaving injured as well.
Anshul Kamboj made his debut for India now as Nitish Kumar Reddy suffered knee damage – one of two injuries they’ll need to address since Arshdeep Singh will also not be available – giving their batters every opportunity they needed to draw this Test series even though all odds were against them!
All-in-all it’s been an impressive effort from their batters who defied all odds to force draw this gruelling tour of England! The final Test will commence at The Oval on Thursday 11 July and you can follow all the action live here!
5th Test
On Sunday (4 January), Australia and England will play their fifth and final Test at Sydney Cricket Ground. Though England haven’t triumphed here since 2011, they still lead 3-1.
Usman Khawaja announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this summer and made his last innings debut today against Jos Buttler, who scored his fourth century of this tour. It will also mark Usman Khawaja’s final international match as an opener.
Ben Stokes dismissed Buttler for 97 to bring Australia down to 142 for five. Jacob Bethell made an impactful comeback into the side in place of Ollie Pope and scored his maiden first-class century, only to be caught leg-before by Matthew Potts a second time, failing to reach three figures again this series.
Ben Stokes continued his targeting middle-to-leg stump region; Weatherald played around a straighter ball only for it to hit Weatherald lbw; review was unsuccessful and umpire’s call stood as England lost another wicket from their innings in the India National Cricket Team Vs England Cricket Team Match Scorecard.
