Sooryavanshi strikes through covers for a boundary. Aaron George’s innings ends when Zadran picks him off Nazif Amiri at backward point and drops him at backward point, ending 96-run partnership between them.
Some may interpret Indiaβs support of Afghan cricket as soft power and public diplomacy against an Afghan government that New Delhi doesnβt fully acknowledge, but its role goes much deeper.
The growing sporting relationship, often highlighted through matches like India National Cricket Team Vs Afghanistan National Cricket Team, reflects how India is providing Afghans with vital services while also helping strengthen their nation through cricket development and support.

IND vs AFG
India defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets to advance to the final of the U19 World Cup in Zimbabwe on Wednesday, thanks to Aaron George’s century and fifties from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, and chased down 311 runs in 41.1 overs.
The U19 side’s success stands as testament to cricket’s power to unite people across borders and bridge gaps between cultures.
Many of its players learned informal tape-ball cricket in refugee camps in Pakistan during an exodus from war-ravaged Afghanistan during the 1980s and 90s exodus; these practices allowed displaced young men and women from Afghanistan to pursue their dreams without patronage influence being an issue.
Their success also serves as proof that sports can alleviate poverty; earnings from leagues such as IPL allow players to support family needs while contributing towards charitable initiatives beyond cricket’s social impact beyond its playing surface.
Although Afghanistan won the match, post-match violence marred it. Following this attack, Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) pulled out of scheduled Indian Premier League tour due to security fears; prompting calls for mediation between sports and state-level conflicts by intervening through mediating sports activities.
However, cricket’s governing body limited their response to expressions of solidarity while emphasizing cricket’s merit-based system which allows teams to advance based on performance rather than geopolitical favoritism. They also stressed the fact that even well-intentioned efforts can face unanticipated political and economic realities.
After the match, Laxman showed his appreciation by slapping one of the groundstaff as a sign of appreciation and respect, then inspecting pitch and crease before speaking with media.
Laxman was delighted by both bowlers and batsmen performances – particularly Rohit Sharma who scored 50 runs! – as well as Rahul Dev and Harshdeep Kaur’s coaching efforts; further praising Rahul Dev’s and Harshdeep Kaur’s coaching staff efforts as well.
It was his first live viewing experience watching Afghan team play live – something which would hopefully be broadcast nationally before final tournament results are determined.
1st T20I
In 2003, the inaugural Twenty20 international (T20I) match took place and marked a historic moment: for the first time ever in T20 cricket’s shorter form had ever been experienced and for which sixes had been scored! Since then, T20 has grown increasingly popular, being adopted into various leagues worldwide and becoming especially cherished amongst younger audiences who now see cricket in an entirely new light!
The T20 format remains immensely popular today amongst youth who often encounter it for the first time for themselves as part of an introduction into T20I cricket’s popularity has brought new audiences into its fold who never before knew cricket could exist!
Australia won the inaugural T20 World Cup 2023 final against India by beating them convincingly with an innings total of 259. Both Australia and New Zealand posted impressive totals during an entertaining encounter between both sides that saw Kiwi bowler Michael Kasprowicz take 4/29 while former Australian captain Ricky Ponting made history by hitting an unbeaten 98 off 55 balls to help lead his side home.
Afghanistan were left lamenting missed opportunities during their chase of 310 for victory. Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazal formed a key 148-run partnership for the third wicket to give their side hope of making a comeback.
India, on the other hand, breezed to their target with ease in 41.1 overs. Sooryavanshi made Afghans pay with an elegant hundred and Aaron George made sure of it by smashing an incredible 115 off 104 deliveries for India to reach their goal easily.
Roohullah Arab to Vihaan Malhotra: FOUR! The left-handed batsman swings and hits the ball towards deep midwicket for a boundary.
Khatir Stanikzai to Vihaan Malhotra: Short and on the pads. Vihaan fails to strike his bat at the tickle and it lands behind square leg for two leg byes.
2nd T20I
The match is scheduled to take place at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on 23rd January, following India’s impressive win in their opener and eager to keep their momentum rolling into this match-up against New Zealand, who would like to regain lost ground after suffering defeat at Nagpur.
Abhishek Sharma took an important step toward his first T20I century by decimating New Zealand bowlers during his first match. He amassed 84 runs off only 35 deliveries with five fours and eight maximums; thus winning him Man of the Match honours for an outstanding display of batsmanship.
Afghan openers remained relatively quiet early on, while Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai utilized their partnership in the middle order to set Afghanistan on their way. India soon mounted their run chase with gusto; Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chouhan stood out amongst bowlers by picking up two wickets each.
India needed just 13 more runs to secure victory and Ayush Mhatre struck an enormous six over the square leg boundary off Khatir Stanikzai to ensure they reached the U-19 World Cup final, facing England for their 10th title clash on Friday.
Osman Sadat took an easy catch off Nooristani Omarzai to dismiss Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for 68. Omarzai’s bowler had placed the ball short of off stump, encouraging Sooryavanshi to play his pull shot but only managed a top edge that Sadat was quick enough to pick off easily.
3rd T20I
Afghanistan got off to a strong start after being put in to bat, with Osman Sadat and Khalid Ahmadzai making an immediate impression by adding 53 runs for the opening wicket before Ahmedzai was caught off Deepesh Devendran off Abhigyan Kundu after 70 balls, ending his innings at 39 off 70 balls.
Although middle overs were relatively subdued, Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai put together an impressive 148 run partnership for third wicket to regain control of their innings.
Shinozada displayed incredible composure and accuracy as he confidently picked off loose deliveries, punishing anything short or full, to reach his second hundred of the competition off just 93 balls with 15 fours laced through them. Niazai proved explosive by hitting balls through gaps to punish anything short or wide; she reached her century off 101 balls in style!
India maintained a run rate of over seven runs per over for most of their chase and never faltered. Aaron George spearheaded their victory with an impressive century, highlighted by eye-catching strokes. He was well supported by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (68 off 33 balls) and Ayush Mhatre (62 off 59).
India reached their target in 41.1 overs, the highest successful run chase ever in U19 World Cup history and bringing them one step closer to reaching the final. Mohammed Shahzad played a vital role in helping India achieve this feat and India are one step closer to qualifying for final.
The final match will take place this Sunday at Potchefstroom Stadium and Ayush Mhatre will replace Vihaan Malhotra as part of his batting lineup. Since their one-day international debut against Bangladesh last November, these two will reunite as partners for the first time since. Their chances are good, but it is essential that both players maintain focus during this match to play an engaging and productive match and not get carried away by its significance. Indian batsmen have done themselves proud by producing outstanding performances in both previous matches, but must now remain more disciplined on the field and avoid taking unnecessary risks. Indian bowlers have shown themselves effective at keeping Afghans at bay so far; they hope to do just that once more this time around.
