Ownership
Due to their involvement in an alleged spot-fixing scandal, the owners of Chennai Super Kings have been banned from IPL for two years.
Since 2008, when their club first joined, it has become one of the most successful franchises ever in IPL history, reaching the knockout stage 12 out of 15 seasons and winning three championships under Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming’s leadership.
Etihad Airways announced in 2024 a multi-year sponsorship deal to become its official airline and transport fans to and from Chennai Super Kings matches using their branded plane.
FedEx will become its principal sponsor, helping the club develop its infrastructure and invest in new players while building a world-class sports facility in Chennai.
CSK have made impressive progress this season despite an slow start, reaching all three playoffs of their league matches and beating Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad along the way – giving them a good shot at taking out this year’s title race.

Meiyappan and his wife both served on team management and held all-access passes that stated “team owners.” Their conflict of interest led to numerous violations of IPL rules which ultimately caused their disqualification from further participation in tournament.
Last season, despite this setback, the Super Kings managed to place second in the league table, thanks largely to Dhoni’s impressive performances. His stunning strike rate and uncanny ability to read the game saw him pick up eight wickets in 14 matches; including an extraordinary innings of 87 off 25 balls against Kings XI in the semi-final.
